犬はもともとオオカミが先祖と言われていることから冬の寒さの厳しい環境で暮らしてきたため寒い気候には強く
なっています。しかし暑さには体の機能がそのように適応してきませんでした。
犬の体には汗腺がありません、なのでどんなに暑くても犬は汗をかくことが出来ないのです。犬の足裏には汗腺
がありますが、足裏が湿る程度なため体温を下げることはできません。その代り口を開けてはぁはぁと呼吸すること(パンティング)で気化熱を利用して体温を下げるしかありません。
梅雨から夏にかけて高温多湿の気候だと水分が蒸発しにくい為、熱を体の外に出しにくいのでずっと口を開けたまま荒い呼吸をしています。
暑さに耐えかねて水をたくさん飲む事により食欲が落ち、体力が消耗してしまいます。これが夏バテです。
夏バテにならない為にも水をたっぷり用意しバランスの良い食事が大切です。
お散歩も日中の熱い時間にいくのはさけ早朝や涼しくなった夕方に行き体調管理をしていきましょう。
